FIRE RAVAGES EXOTIC NYGARD CAY
In the wee hours of Wednesday morning, fire extensively damaged portions of exotic Nygard Cay. The blaze that was believed to have begun in the northwestern part of the property also damaged the main structure. The smolders from the fire could still be seen late Wednesday afternoon and since then erroneous reports by some in media claimed the estate was totally destroyed.
Not so according to Superintendent Jeffery Deleveaux, Fire Department the property was extensively damaged, but not beyond repair.
Fashion mogul/Philanthropist Peter Nygard, owner of the storybook estate was not on the island at the time the fire broke out but his daughter Bianca was summoned to the estate.
Security officers were reported to be the only persons on the compound and there were no injuries.
The telephones an electrical system was damaged in this horrific incident.
Nygard Cay is a private cay that sits in the southern end of super- ultra exclusive Lyford Cay. Because it is a private cay, it is not subject to the housing codes and rules and regulations of Lyford Cay much to the dismay of some of the residents of Ly. Cay as they affectionately call it.
Nygard Cay is a photographers dream, and peter loved sharing it with Bahamians, visitors and the elite.
Even though he became famous worldwide for his fashion empire and fabulous parties, Bahamians identify with him more for his philanthropic work. It includes sponsoring many sporting bodies and organizations and hosting many clinics.
He is slated to fly in today and staff of Junkanoobeat was scheduled to shoot on the island this coming Sunday.
